Workshop Manifesto

Precision, Geometry & The Joy of Making

ZuriForge is an independent woodworking journal rooted in Zürich, Switzerland — documenting the convergence of software engineering precision and organic timber craft.

Züri Forge Workshop Seal

The Workshop Emblem

Carved in relief against Alpine timber rings, the official Züri Forge maker seal signifies our dedication to craftsmanship, geometric precision, and the patient art of fine woodwork in Zürich, Switzerland.

Why ZuriForge Exists

In an era dominated by digital abstractions and ephemeral screen pixels, woodworking provides a grounding physical reality. Every cut has immediate consequences; every grain pattern is an unrepeatable record of sunlight, weather, and decades of botanical growth.

ZuriForge is deliberately non-commercial. There is no shopping cart, no production runs, and no retail markups. The sole purpose of this site is to celebrate the craft: documenting how pieces are designed, problem-solving complex clamping geometry, building custom jigs, and sharing transparent build logs with the woodworking community.

Inspiration: Stammherz & European Geometric Woodwork

Much inspiration for these geometric projects comes from European artisan makers such as Louay at Stammherz, whose devotion to complex end-grain lamination, custom clamping frames, and precision jigs proves that woodworking can reach the tolerances of fine watchmaking.

The Workshop Setup

Operating out of a maker shop in Zürich, precision and dust collection are paramount:

Joinery & Milling Cast-iron Jointer & Thickness Planer
Precision Slicing Cabinet Saw with Micro-Adjust Crosscut Sled
Linear Trimming Plunge Track Saw with Guide Rail
Clamping Array Heavy Steel F-Clamps & Parallel Bar Clamps
Sanding & Prep Random Orbital (80–320 grit) & Card Scrapers
Surface Treatment USP Food-Grade Mineral Oil & Organic Beeswax

Timber Sourcing & Ethics

Wood is a precious natural resource. Whenever possible, timber is sourced from sustainably managed Swiss and European forestry — such as European Beech (*Fagus sylvatica*) from the Jura, Swiss Walnut, and native Ash. For accent woods like Purpleheart (*Peltogyne*), only certified, legally imported stock with chain-of-custody verification is utilized.

Every scrap cutoff in the shop is repurposed for test glue-ups, small geometric coasters, or workshop cauls, ensuring near-zero waste.
